Traffic
(Such as the well known roundabout speed bump)

Many residents have expressed frustration with the roundabout near Black Desert Resort, where a speed bump was installed to slow traffic and help Entrada residents enter more safely. While well-intentioned, speed bumps can be rough on vehicles and trailers, and not everyone agrees they’re the best solution.

IDEA 1: Caution Sign With Lights | Instead of speed bumps, we could add short sections of cut grooves in the pavement (like the rumble strips used on freeways to prevent drowsy driving). Installing 2–3 of these strips about 100 feet before the roundabout would alert drivers and naturally slow speeds. This approach is very cost-effective and less damaging to vehicles. This idea was shared with me by Ron Densley.

IDEA 2: Optical speed bars | Painted transverse lines that get progressively closer together as you approach the roundabout. Drivers perceive this as “speeding up” (an optical illusion), which encourages them to brake. No added noise...and very practical cost.

IDEA 3: Raised pavement markers (RPMs / “cat’s eyes”) | Reflective markers can provide a light “click” sound and vibration, much milder than rumble strips. Quieter but still noticeable to drivers.

IDEA 3: Improved signage & visibility | Another low-cost option is better signage or reflective striping approaching the roundabout. Simple improvements—like larger “Roundabout Ahead” signs, reflective paint, or solar-powered flashing yield signs—could increase driver awareness without major expense.
