Thoughtful Growth

Smart, community-driven development prioritizes sustainability, infrastructure, and the preservation of our natural beauty. Growth should align with Ivins’ general plan, which has already considered input from residents. My goal is to ensure that as we grow, we do so thoughtfully—enhancing opportunities for residents without putting unnecessary strain on the community, city services, or the environment.

  • IDEA 1: Balanced resort development | Ivins has approved several resort projects in a relatively small area. Future approvals should carefully consider traffic, infrastructure capacity, environmental impact, and community character to ensure growth does not overwhelm the city.

  • IDEA 2: Attainable housing & ADUs | Encourage accessory dwelling units (ADUs) as a way for existing homeowners to earn additional income and for renters to access more affordable housing options. This supports residents directly while gently increasing housing supply without large-scale construction.

  • IDEA 3: Mixed-use and “missing middle” housing | Support thoughtfully designed mixed-use projects and “missing middle” housing (duplexes, triplexes, courtyard homes) in appropriate areas. These provide more attainable options for new residents while integrating smoothly with existing neighborhoods.

  • IDEA 4: Infrastructure- and maintenance-driven growth | Require new developments to include necessary infrastructure improvements and to maintain open space, parks, trails, and common areas through HOA or resort-managed systems. This ensures growth does not outpace city services or place long-term financial burdens on residents.

  • IDEA 5: Environmental and community preservation | Encourage developers to incorporate natural landscaping, trails, and recreational spaces that preserve Ivins’ beauty. When these areas are maintained by the development itself, the city benefits from sustainable growth while reducing ongoing maintenance costs.
